Krog Street Market Movie Nights

Krog Street Market is now playing movies every Tuesday at 7 pm. Last night it was Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Check this out for a full line up: krogstreetmarket.com.  Movie and food from a food stall sounds like a good night and something different to do!  Note that Irwin Street is closed currently due to The Beltline being extended.  More details are on their website.

Beer Lovers Unite: Hop City’s Girl Scout Cookie & Beer Pairings

Another cool idea from Scoutmob:

Adulthood is Awesome: Hop City’s Girl Scout Cookie & Beer Pairings

Being an adult has its perks, namely when we get the chance to dunk a Thin Mint into a tall cup of chilled and sudsy … beer.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Pairings of four different classic Girl Scout Cookies with four different craft brews, expertly selected by the beer-lovin' geniuses at Hop City
  • The chance to hob-nob over hops and pints with your fellow cookie-lovin’ brew-minded brethren
SCOUT NOTES
Fact: being a grown-up can be kind of a downer. First off, we have bills, social calendars, and all sorts of responsibilities we can no longer whine our way out of, no matter how hard we’ve tried. (Trust us, we’ve tried.) It’s rough. But then… every now and then, something graces our lives that shows us how rewarding it can be to be over 21. And today that reminder is this: the combination of Girl Scout Cookies and craft beer, compliments of Hop City and Scoutmob.

Ticonderoga Club at Krog Street Market

Online it is billed as “Colonial era–inspired tavern serving seafood, sandwiches & craft cocktails at Krog Street Market”.  I found out Ticonderoga is a town and tourist attraction in upstate New York.  Inside the new Atlanta restaurant, I felt like I was in a bunker.  Not a fan of the décor.  Maybe they were trying to go with an exclusive members-only vibe.  I DO have to say the food and service were awesome though!  Our server was so attentive and nice.  We loved that we were able to have a yummy AND healthy meal.  It is located in the corner of the market between The Luminary and Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams.  Note:  They do not take reservations and are not open on Wednesdays.

My friend and I split:

Butternut Squash Salad (kinda like a Thai salad!)
Cured Salmon Spring Roll (kinda like sashimi!)
Vegan Noodle Bowl

Yalla- Tasty Middle Eastern Food in Atlanta

Yalla is a modern Middle Eastern food stall at Krog Street Market from Chef Todd Ginsberg, Shelley Sweet, and Jennifer & Ben Johnson, the team behind The General Muir and Fred’s Meat & Bread. In addition to favorites like falafel, shawarma, and kebabs, Yalla serves fresh, seasonal "salatim" (salads) and handcrafted, all natural, low sugar sodas.  My all time favorite dish is the Shwarma Bowl which is spit roasted chicken, hummus, baba ganoush, Israeli salad & pickles, fried eggplant, harissa, tahini, amba.  It is $13 and I have gotten it without chicken a few times.  Delicious!  Yalla Holla!

The Luminary

This is the first place open at the Krog Street Market.  We liked the space (all white, very open), good crowd but it seemed to be lacking something.  We were thinking maybe a more ornate center piece above the bar or more subway tile.  Maybe a DJ in the front corner??  You can't just have good food either, you have to have a good vibe.  Places like Barcelona kill it in Inman Park because they create a great ambiance with music, art, etc.  We had the streak frites, bibb lettuce salad and oysters which were ok.  Loved the Shrimp Toast.  Cocktails were in super tiny glasses and salad portions were very small.  I felt like I was back in LA!  We will definitely be back to support the neighborhood and check out what has changed on the menu.  Staff was friendly and attentive, loved that valet was inside a covered area (because it was a torrential Atlanta downpour).
